Math:
After FCAT, third grade is starting a new math unit about data called Surveys and Line Plots. During this unit, students collect, represent, describe and interpret data. Students also design and carry out their own data investigations.

There are many things in the world around us that have data and graphs. Next time you're out or at home with your child, try to find and discuss some data!

Math Fact Club is continuing this nine weeks.

In our math class, students spend time discussing problems in depth and share their reasoning and solutions. It is important that students accurately and efficiently solve math problems in ways that make sense to them. At home, encourage your child to explain his/her math thinking to you.

Please look for more information and activities about Data Analysis that will be sent home in the coming weeks. Thanks so much for your support.

Social Studies:
"Economics Every Day" is the name of our new unit we will be studying in social studies. Your child will learn new vocabulary that we use in our everyday life such as "income", "budget", "opportunity cost" and "competition". We will be discussing money and its uses as well as illustrating the process of making choices involving money. Chapter 9 covers some very important life skills that you use everyday as a parent or guardian. At home, you can discuss different ways your child could save money or even how your money may be earning interest at the bank. This will help connect what we're learning with why we need to learn this information.

As always, thank you so much for your support at home and please look for more information and activities about "Economics Every Day" that will be sent home in the coming weeks.
